CBDCs in the Middle East: UAE´s and Saudi Arabia´s Project Aber and other ongoing projects.

A Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is a new form of Central Bank money accessible to the general public, accepted as a means of payment, legal tender, safe store of value by all citizens, businesses and government agencies.

Project Aber was an initiative launched by the central banks of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates to explore the viability of a single dual-issued digital currency as an instrument of domestic and cross-border settlement between the two countries.

In this session, Dr. Oriol Caudevilla will analyze UAE´s and Saudi Arabia´s Project Aber as well as the status of the other ongoing CBDC projects in the Middle East.
